Floor Plan & Site Plan – An Important Part of the Visual Survey
When conducting the initial Visual Survey of a home, the Hazard Investigator will want to draw a Floor Plan and a Site Plan of the property. Looking around the outside and inside of the home, Hazard Investigators can begin to understand the general condition of the home, and target sampling as appropriate.
In many cases, Hazard Investigators will want to take photographs of the home or certain hazards found, to lend even more credibility to the Visual Survey Report. The Floor Plan is a quick sketch of the interior of the unit that is being assessed. It is suggested that Hazard Investigators mark sampling locations on the Floor Plan so they can easily recall where samples (and/or photos) were taken. The Site Plan is a quick sketch of the outside of the property, including the building in which the hazard investigation is taking place. It is important to mark on the site plan areas of bare soil, deteriorated paint, and anything else that may trigger sampling outside. Complete instructions on completing floor and site plans are included in the Visual Survey Instructions .
Below you will find CEHRC’s Floor Plan and Site Plan forms to assist Hazard Investigators in completing this part of the Visual Survey. We have included examples of how these plans might be done in a home hazard investigation.
